Notes on the data
- Coverage: open NHS trust directories for 12 trusts (Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Derby, Manchester, North Staffs, Oxford, Plymouth, Tunbridge Wells); for the remaining 22 sites the consultant list is bootstrapped from PHIN (~13,500 UK consultants with private practice) + NJR (3,281 joint-replacement surgeons), filtered by hospital attribution.
- Excluded specialties: anaesthetics, radiology / clinical imaging, A&E / emergency medicine, pathology, geriatric / elderly care — these don't translate to private elective work.
- "New opportunity" is the actionable pool: consultants ≤5 years on the specialist register who are NOT already at a Nuffield site. Sub-columns split it into "rival only" (conversion target) and "no private practice" (easiest onboarding).
- Why "New opportunity" looks low at some sites: PHIN-bootstrapped sites only see consultants who already have private practice — brand-new consultants who haven't started private aren't in PHIN at all. London Nuffield sites (Parkside, Highgate) and Scottish sites are most affected.
- Plymouth, Brentwood, Edinburgh, Glasgow: thin coverage. Plymouth needs the NHS-scrape augmented with PHIN/NJR discovery; Scottish sites are PHIN-only (NJR doesn't cover Scotland).

Legend
- Scraped (cheerio): trust publishes a static HTML consultant directory. Cheap to scrape, refreshes fast.
- Scraped (Playwright): trust directory is JavaScript-rendered. Scraped via headless browser. Slower but reliable.
- Recon — hard / JS: trust directory exists but is JavaScript-only or hidden behind complex pagination. Playwright work needed to integrate.
- Broken / empty: trust publishes a directory page that contains no usable consultant data (placeholder text, test slugs, or empty cards).
- No public directory: trust does not publish a consultant directory at all. These sites fall back to PHIN (private-practice) + NJR (joint-replacement) discovery only.
